Creating an illustration series based on a character description by Elias Canetti “Tränenwärmer”.
“The tearwarmer visits the cinema daily. It doesn’t always has to be something new, he also likes to watch older movies. The important thing is that it serves its purpose to elicit plenty of tears from him. You sit in the dark unseen by others and wait for fulfillment. It’s a cold and heartless world nobody wants to live without the warm wet feeling on the cheeks. Once the tears start to flow you feel warmer, you get silent, don’t move a muscle and be careful to not wipe your tears away. Every tear should gift its warmth till the end regardless of whether the tear reaches the mouth, chin or even flows over the neck to the chest. The tearwarmer accepts everything gratefully and rises only after taking a extensive bath.”
After doing some scribbles and color schemes on my ipad, I decides to go with my inital idea and add a nice touch at the end, when the tearwarmer takes the bathing duck to drain the water. I used Tombow brush markers and posca pens.
An Illustration series with 5 pieces, that tell a short story of a man sitting in a cinema crying so much that the water level rises to his chin and happily draining the water with the help of the bathing duck afterwards.
